About CWSA
The Competitive Wake Surf Association (CWSA) is the international federation that connects the wakesurf community worldwide. Through sanctioned events, world rankings built on the World Ranking System (WRS), and a single set of competition rules and judging criteria, CWSA is developing wakesurfing into a sport where everyone is measured the same way.
Whichever country an event is held in, the same rules, the same judging criteria and the same points calculation apply. That is why a result earned in Japan counts directly toward the World Ranking. CWSA JAPAN's role is to explain how that system works, accurately and in Japanese, and to connect Japanese athletes to the world stage.
These figures are as published on the CWSA global site. Please check that site for the current numbers.
World Ranking System
The WRS converts results from CWSA sanctioned events into points on a single worldwide scale, and compiles them into world rankings by division. The rankings themselves are maintained and published by CWSA.
Create a CWSA account and activate an Athlete Membership. This is a prerequisite for appearing in the World Ranking System.
Enter CWSA sanctioned events in Japan or overseas through your CWSA account.
Compete under certified judges, using the same rules and judging criteria worldwide.
Heat results and placings are recorded and published as official results.
WRS points are awarded according to your result. The points on offer are set by CWSA and depend on factors such as the event level.
Points feed into a single global ranking, published by division.
A season of results builds the pathway toward the CWSA World Championship. Qualification criteria are set by CWSA.
Global Events
CWSA sanctioned events are held around the world, and every one of them counts toward the WRS. Each event is graded on a level from Diamond down to Bronze.
Event Levels
Event dates, venues and entry status can change, so CWSA JAPAN does not duplicate them here. Please check the official CWSA event calendar.
Divisions
CWSA divisions are made up of category, competitive level and gender. The official list of divisions is on the CWSA rankings page.
Membership
To compete in a CWSA event you need a CWSA account and an Athlete Membership. The whole process is completed on the CWSA system.
Create an account on the CWSA site and verify your email address. Everything else starts here.
Activate an Athlete Membership. It is required to enter sanctioned events and to appear in the World Ranking System.
Register your name, country and photo. Your competition record builds up on this profile.
Choose the division that matches your age group and competitive level. Divisions are standardized across CWSA.
Enter an online event or an in-person sanctioned event.
WRS points are awarded based on your result and feed into the World Ranking.
Fees, eligibility requirements and division details are subject to change. Rather than publish amounts and conditions of our own, CWSA JAPAN always points you to the official CWSA pages.
